Collection of Second World War dramas. In 'We Dive at Dawn' (1943) the crew of the Sea Tiger have their leave cut short when they are ordered to pursue and sink a new German battleship known as the Brandenburg. The crew's captain (John Mills) is tasked with destroying the ship before it enters the Kiel Canal but he soon discovers that the Brandenburg is heavily defended and is further away than first thought. Along the way, the Sea Tiger crew enters German controlled seas knowing that once they complete their mission they may not have enough fuel to return home. In 'Sea of Sand' (1958) Captain Williams (John Gregson) is a martinet mine expert who undertakes to whip the hitherto lackadaisical British Long Range Desert Group patrol into shape. This brings him into conflict with patrol leader Captain Cotton (Michael Craig), but earns him the respect of hard-bitten trooper Brody (Richard Attenborough). The wisdom of Williams' no-nonsense approach is demonstrated when the patrol is besieged by the highly-disciplined members of the German Afrika Korps. 'The Silver Fleet' (1943) takes place during the Nazis' early occupation of Holland as one of the country's largest shipyards is seized in the hope of turning it into a production line for Nazi U-boats. The shipyard's owner, Jaap Van Leyden (Ralph Richardson), is ordered by German enforcer Von Schiffer (Esmond Knight) to collaborate and help with U-boat production. But unbeknown to the Gestapo, Van Leyden is in fact a hero of the local resistance and sets in motion a covert plan to strike back against the Nazis' production line. 'Waterloo Road' (1945) follows Jim Colter (also Mills) as he is called up to serve in the army, but he soon finds himself at war on two fronts. In his absence, his wife Tillie (Joy Shelton) attracts the amorous attention of vicious local spiv and self-acclaimed ladies' man Ted Purvis (Stewart Granger). After Jim's sister writes to tell him what is going on, Jim decides that the Nazis can wait and breaks out of camp in order to rush home to his wife. With the military hot on his tail, Jim makes his way across war-torn London to settle the matter once and for all.
