Steve Myers (Billy Connolly) gave up his job as a lawyer to become a fisherman. But when a storm destroys his only asset, his boat, and the insurance company refuses to pay out for 'an act of God', he decides to react. Re-registering as a lawyer, Myers then sues the insurance company and the Church (who represent God) whilst local journalist Anna Redmond (Julia Davis) begins to follow the case.
