A turf war is in progress on the streets of New York's Chinatown and the police force is relying on one of its most decorated officers Nick Chen (Chow Yun Fat) to calm the situation. However, Nick is saddled with a naive and idealistic new rookie partner Danny Wallace (Mark Wahlberg) who is unaware of the complexity of the codes of honour in the Chinese community. When a Triad gang attempts to corrupt Danny, Nick is forced to intervene.
