Dirk Bogarde portrays Hungarian composer and musician Franz Liszt in this biopic which was director Charles Vidor's final film. Having found great success throughout Europe as a pianist, Liszt hopes to also make it as a composer. As his fame rises, however, he encounters trouble in his private life when he becomes involved with a Russian princess following an affair with a French countess.
