Jonas Åkerlund directs this thriller based on the career of Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Fronted by guitarist Euronymous (Rory Culkin), Mayhem were the first band in the black metal genre to come from Norway. In their gruesome live shows, singer Dead (Jack Kilmer) frequently practises self-harm on stage and launches animal corpses into the audience. As tensions grow within the band, with new member Varg (Emory Cohen) questioning Euronymous's status as leader, crime sprees, murders and suicides become commonplace and their lives become less and less about the music.
