While all her friends have left for summer camp, 14-year-old violinist Emily Lindstrom (Evan Rachel Wood) remains at home to practice for an upcoming audition with the San Francisco Youth Orchestra. Meanwhile, she sets herself up as the neighbourhood 'secret keeper', charging the younger children a 50 cent fee to share their secrets with her. But as she receives this rare glimpse into the secret life of the suburbs, she begins to feel that all is not right in her own life.
