Max Ophuls directs this 1935 Italian melodrama starring Isa Miranda as Gaby Doriot, a famous film star whose ill-fated love affair leads to tragedy. When she is put under anaesthetic following an attempted suicide, Gaby recalls in flashback her doomed relationship with married magnate Leonardo Nanni (Memo Benassi), which led to the accidental death of his invalid wife Alma (Tatyana Pavlova) and Gaby's subsequent emotional breakdown.
