Divorced father Toby (Pine) and his ex-con brother Tanner (Ben Foster) stage a string of carefully planned bank robberies in a desperate attempt to save their family's West Texas farm from bank foreclosure. With the thefts mounting up, ageing Texas Ranger Marcus (Bridges) is assigned to investigate the crimes and quickly begins gathering evidence.
