Collection of films starring the legendary actor, Dirk Bogarde. In 'Simba' (1955) Alan Howard (Bogarde) travels to post-colonial Africa to visit his brother, only to discover that he has been killed by a Kenyan rebel group. Howard vows revenge on the Mau Mau, but falls in love with a neighbouring settler, Mary (Virginia McKenna), who disagrees with his abhorrence of the native people and tries to put an end to his prejudices. 'So Long at the Fair' (1950) follows the fortunes of Vicky Barton (Jean Simmons) as she attempts to locate her missing brother, Johnny (David Tomlinson), in Paris. George Hathaway (Bogarde), an acquaintance of her brother, may hold the key to her quest. 'Once a Jolly Swagman' (1948) follows Bill Fox (Bogarde), a factory worker in 1930s England who quits his job to become a motorcycle racer. He also leaves his wife (Sandra Dorne) for socialite Pat (Renee Asherson), but will he come to regret turning his back on his roots? 'Esther Waters' (1947) sees Bogarde take on his first starring role as William Latch, a dashing squire who impregnates one of his servants, Esther Waters (Kathleen Ryan). To everyone's surprise, Esther faces down local disapproval and resolves to bring up the child on her own. Finally, 'The High Bright Sun' (1964) is set against the background of Cyprus' struggle for independence from British rule in the 1950s. Bogarde stars as British Intelligence Officer McGuire, whose sense of duty imperils the life of the woman he loves.
