Double-bill of gangster drama, featuring the character of Carlito Brigante. In 'Carlito's Way - Rise to Power' (2005), Jay Hernandez stars as the Hispanic gangster. In 1960s New York, Calito is building himself up as the king of heroin dealers in Spanish Harlem. But as he enters further into a dark and dangerous world, Carlito soon learns that on the streets the only way to survive is by staying loyal to your friends. In 'Carlito's Way' (1993), Al Pacino plays the title character. Just released from prison, Carlito is determined to go straight and move to the Bahamas with his girlfriend, Gail (Penelope Ann Miller). However, Carlito is tempted back to the wrong side of the law by his lawyer, nerdish coke-head David Kleinfeld (Sean Penn), for 'one last job'. Brian De Palma directs this visually eloquent film about a man's inevitable tragic demise with his familiar penchant for the big set piece and violent action.
