Miniseries about the collapse of the Roman Republic and the rise of Augustus (Benjamin Sadler/Peter O'Toole), the first Emperor of Rome. Augustus, the young yet strong-willed adopted son of Julius Caesar (Gerard Klein), returns to Rome, a city stricken by civil war and rife with conspiracy. The city is thrown into despair when news strikes that the conspirators have succeeded in assassinating Caesar. Young Augustus must now attempt to follow in Caesar's mighty footsteps, earn the respect of Rome and fight against the Roman Empire's many enemies, both external and internal. After a bitter civil war against the legions of Mark Antony (Massimo Ghini), the Roman Empire is finally established.
